College-bound seniors who have a particular interest in the field of American Government and Political Science Extensive reading and writing skills required Prepare and take the AP exam in May Full-fills GCHS graduation requirements.

Graduation Requirement Students will learn how to balance the rights and responsibilities of individual members with the needs of society as a whole.

Basic economic concepts and understandings necessary for economic decision-making in today’s world

10 JA Economics Enriched alternative to Economics R
Includes the basics of economics, but encompasses an enriched curriculum with a middle-management consultant from business or industry. Full-fills GCHS graduation requirements.

11 AP Economics College bound seniors who are interested in the fields of business, accounting, law or economics. Students will be preparing for the AP exam in May. Fulfills GCHS graduation requirements.

12 Social Studies Electives
Applied Local History Current Issues ½ year course Historical process through research into family and local history. Topics: Monroe County, Erie Canal, Gates, Chili, current local issues. ½ year course Explores areas of controversy and/or change within our society.

Criminal Justice Psychology ½ year course Focuses on the criminal justice system, law enforcement, the court system, and the prison system. Students may choose to earn dual credit through Monroe Community College. ½ year course What makes people “tick”? Why do people act and think as they do? Topics: psychological disorders, sleep and dreams, altered states of consciousness & personality disorders

14 Social Studies Electives
AP Psychology Sociology Full year course Social science that seeks to understand human and animal behavior. Students will prepare for AP exam in May ½ year course Society has problems. It is your responsibility as a human to understand them to solve them. Topics: socialization, deviance, race, family, religion, social class, gender.

15 Social Studies Electives
US Foreign Policy in the Modern World World War, Holocaust & Rebuilding ½ year course Since 1945 the US has been a key player in world events shaping our relations with the rest of the world community. Topics: global economics, humanitarian assistance, peacekeeping, terrorism ½ year course Covers European involvement in the World Wars, the Holocaust, and the aftermath. Purpose: to analyze the historic roots of the World Wars, the Weimar Republic, the Nazi Period, and the Holocaust

US History/Dual Credit African American History Elective American history from 1400s-present Models the US History course offered at MCC Students will receive NYS graduation credit Students may choose to take the MCC exam for possible college credit (exam fees may apply) ½ year course Intricate look into African American history from the 1700s to the present. Examination of past and current African American culture Focus upon famous African Americans and their contributions to American culture
