After WW2 East Germans were dissatisfied with the Communist life in east Berlin.

They started to flee to the Democratic west

In response they started to build a wall that encircled the west

The wall was 12 feet tall and 4 feet wide

7. Death Strip
Was the land closest to the wall, it had soft sand (to show footprints) vicious dogs, trip wire machine guns, guard towers, and patrolling officers to shoot escapees at sight.

They literally took every precaution to keep east Germans from getting to the west

However , more than 5000 people escaped east Berlin, but 171 died trying

10. Ronald Reagan
In 1987 president Reagan stood on the west side of the Berlin and demanded that Gorbachof tear down their wall!!!

11. The end of the Berlin wall
Two years later east Germans decreed to tear down their wall , families that had been separated for decades were finally reunited.
