Circulatory System The Circulatory system serves 3 main functions:
Delivers needed substances to cells Carries wastes away from cells Helps regulate body temperature It also contains blood cells that fight disease
2
Coronary Circulatory Coronary means “heart”
Flow of blood to and from the tissues of the heart
3
Coronary Circulatory
4
Pulmonary Circulation
Pulmonary means “lungs” Flow of blood thru the heart to the lungs and back to the heart
5
Systemic Circulation Oxygen-rich blood flows to all organs and body tissues except heart and lungs O2 poor blood to heart
6
Blood Flow Blood high in CO2 and low in O2 returns from the body to the heart 1st it enters the right atrium through the superior and inferior vena cava
7
Next, the Right Atrium contracts forcing blood into the Right Ventricle
8
The Right ventricle contracts and blood leaves the heart through the pulmonary artery to the lungs.
9
Oxygen rich blood travels from the lungs thru the pulmonary vein into the left atrium
10
Left atrium contracts forcing blood into left ventricle
11
Oxygen rich blood flows to all parts of your body through the Aorta
