1 ANGIOSPERMS This is a large and very successful group of Flowering Plants Angiosperms reproduce Sexually Asexually

2 Sexual Reproduction The organ for sexual reproduction in angiosperms is the flower. There are male and female organs.

3 Pollination: Is the transfer of male pollen from the anther to the female stigma.
Self Pollination: Occurs on the same plant. Pollen is transferred from the male anther to the female stigma on the same plant. Cross Pollination: Occurs between different plants to ensure genetic variation occurs and the seeds and plants produced are different to the parent generation.

4 Fertilisation is the fusing of male and female gametes to produce a zygote.

6 Sowing seeds in containers
1. Use sterile seed raising mix and place it loosely to the top of the container

7 2. Level the growing medium using a float so seeds sit at an even depth. Water well, using a sprayer

8 3. Distribute the seed evenly over the surface, ensuring that the density is correct for the size of the seed. For large seed, use a dibber.

9 4. Cover the seed lightly with sieved soil making sure it is covered to twice the depth of the diameter of the seed. Firm down the medium.

10 5. Water from the base, label (with your name, the name of the plant and the date) and place in a warm, sheltered environment e.g. a glasshouse, or cover with newspaper or glass.

14 Small seed

15 1. Cultivate soil to a fine tilth.

16 2. Small seeds need to be sown in a shallow trench or drill.
Stretch a garden line between pegs at each end of the row.

17 Then pull the corner of a hoe along the line to
make a V shaped line. The drill should be twice as deep as the size of the seed.

18 3.The drill is then watered until the water drains away.

19 4. The seeds are then sprinkled thinly and evenly along the drill.

20 5. Cover the seeds with fine soil using the flat edge of the hoe.
Tap the soil lightly down with the back of a rake.

21 Water in with a fine spray.

22 6. Label each row with the name of the plant and the sowing date.

23 Large seed

24 A garden line should be used to make sure the lines are straight
A garden line should be used to make sure the lines are straight. These should be carefully spaced so that the plants will be the correct distance apart when they have grown. You can either make a drill or use a dibber to make a hole for each seed. If you plant two or three in the same hole, at least one should grow. The others can be removed if necessary.
