NO COMMA (need two independent clauses– this has a dependent clause after the conjunction) When she was at home she did all of her homework. I was entranced by the incredible view at the top of the Upper Falls hike in Yosemite; it was the most awe-striking view I have ever seen and I wanted to soak it all in. disarming (adj) Though she was standoffish and did not trust him at first, his disarming manner soon had her laughing and giggling at everything he said. sullen (adj) After her mom told her she couldn’t go to the party, Aria became sullen and stomped around the house, slamming doors and not speaking with anyone.

Teachers can tell when a student is impetuous in their writing, as many words are spelled wrong and there are many mistakes that could’ve easily been taken care of if they took more time with it. appraise (v) He appraised the diamond carefully, making sure there were no cracks and that it was pure all the way through, as he wanted it to be perfect for the proposal. writhe (v) Abby and the girls pretended to writhe in pain whenever they acted as if someone was possessing them, contorting themselves so much that people had to restrain them. reciprocity (n) When Joe gave Jenny a present, she wanted to show reciprocity so she went out and bought him a present too.

After Stephanie told Larry that he was ugly, Larry retorted by saying that at least he was smart, unlike her. incredulous (adj) When Mike told me that he saw a UFO over the weekend, I couldn’t help but be incredulous and ask him for proof. conscientious (adj) Because he was so conscientious, John Proctor did what he believed in and decided to stand up for what he believed in.

How did George treat Lennie when they were younger? Describe Slim. What does Carlson do in this chapter? Why? (Hint– how does this relate to something that Candy owns?) Why is Candy so upset about Carlson’s actions? Why does Candy want to join Lennie and George in their dream? Do George and Lennie want Candy to join them? What happens at the end of the chapter with Lennie and Curley? Why does this happen?

Exit: Look at the paper I returned to you. On a separate sheet of paper that you will turn in, do the following: 1) Respond to my commentary E.g. I agree with what you said about my explanations but didn’t know how to make them better. E.g. I’m not sure how I can fix my topic sentences– can you help? 2) Tell me a specific day when you will have revisions finished and turned back in to me. If you didn’t turn in a paper… 1) Tell me why 2) Tell me what I can do to support you in the future.
