Citizenship Expectations
Follow these citizenship rules. This is what your citizenship grade is based upon. 4–Exemplary 3–Good 2–Inconsistent 1-Needs Improvement Follow the Full Value Agreement Use time wisely Come prepared for class Listen carefully and follow directions Be courteous Display a positive attitude Put forth your best effort Participate in class discussions and activities Write-Ups, Tardy Policy, etc.
3
Being Prepared Be on time! I expect you to be seated and ready to work at the beginning of each class. Get to work on your daily geography right away Always bring your folder with assignments, pencil, pen, and a free reading book. If you need to go to your locker, it is considered a tardy. Bathroom and drink breaks should be taken during YOUR break time…not class time unless it is an emergency.
4
Classwork Classwork is graded in one of the following ways:
Credit, partial credit, or no credit based on completion only Graded for right or wrong Not graded, but used for discussion and practice
5
Grades Your grades are made up of a combination of daily work, homework, tests, and projects. Grades are updated every day or so. Check PowerSchool I’m here to help! Before or afterschool
6
Grading Policy Homework approximately 40% of final grade- Done but failed ……………………………………… 60% Late………………….……………10% deduction per day Never completed …………………………………… Zero Assessments approximately 60% of final grade Retakes are offered for scores less than 70%. It is the student’s responsibility to review the material that was missed and ask for help. The two test scores will be averaged.
7
Tests Typically, you will have a test following each chapter.
Test questions are generated from the notes you take while reading the textbook, class discussions, and any other related activities. You will always be given a study guide. If you receive a grade lower than 70%, you will have the opportunity to retake the test.
8
Absences It is YOUR responsibility to collect the work you missed (check the board and the absent bin). You will have up to 1 week to complete all your work (including anything new). The homework section of my website can help you. If you’re going to be out for more than a day, ask your parents to call and get your work/books. Life will be a lot easier if you do! If you know you’ll be gone (vacation, sports, etc.), please get your work ahead of time. You’ll need a trip slip from the office and work will be due when you return.
9
Other Expectations… Keep your desk area clean (pick up garbage, take your belongings at the end of class) Keep your folder and slot organized Help keep our classroom clean When finished with an assignment/activity Puzzle Homework Free Reading Book Pass Back Papers

Why do we study Geography?
What is Geography? Why do we study Geography?

What is Geography? Geography informs us about The places and communities in which we live and work Our natural environments and the pressures they face The interconnectedness of the world and our communities within it How and why the world is changing, globally and locally How our individual and societal actions contribute to those changes The choices that exist in managing our world for the future The importance of location in business and decision-making Geography is the study of Earth’s landscapes, peoples, places and environments. It is, quite simply, about the world in which we live
