2
Objective To analyze the trends in prevalence and mortality rates in children requiring HD and to compare prevalence and mortality.
3
Methods Retrospective analysis
HCUP 2012, 2009, 2006 and 2003 KID inpatient database 1 month – 18 years of age Weighted comparison Data analysis - SPSS
4
Results A total of 11,810,223 admissions in the years 2012, 2009, 2006 and 2003 0.1% of total admissions (12,612) required hemodialysis 52.2 % males, 32.6% white and 31.8% with private insurance
5
Results – Variables Variable Value (Median) IQR Age 12 years 5-15
Length of Stay 7 days 3-17 Charges $ 55,440 21,748 – 164,488
6
Results The prevalence increased from 0.92/10,000 discharges in 2003 to 1.53/10,000 discharges in 2012 (p<0.001, Chi-Square for linear trend) with an overall prevalence of 1.07/10,000 discharges. The mortality rate in children who received HD decreased from 10.36% in 2003 to 8.39% in 2012 (p = 0.01, Chi-Square for linear trend) with an overall mortality rate of 9.48%.
