Mobilizing the Home Front
15 million Americans served in the military, millions more at home Home Front – America at home, during WWII Army, navy, and air bases were built all over the country for training. Stimulates economy and creates tons of jobs!

Miracle of Production The government took control of the economy.
Set prices, negotiated with unions War Production Board- helped factories shift from making consumer goods, to war materials. Automobile factories began making tanks and trucks

Rationing - limitations on goods Ration coupons for sugar, meat, wheat, gasoline, etc. Many people planted victory gardens Provided food for many families, to help conserve goods for the war effort

Women During Wartime Took the jobs of many men when they left for the war. Also began careers in the military Fly planes, they were not allowed to be in combat however. Worked in factories producing war materials

African Americans Rallied together during war time.
Fought for jobs and better wages. Served in the war effort. “Double V Campaign”- A.A. fought for victory, both on the home front, and at war. Discrimination continued, race riots broke out around the country

Problems for Japanese Americans
After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Japanese were forced into relocation camps. 110,000 Japanese people put in camps. FDR issued these orders This went against their constitutional rights Still, many Japanese went on to enter the war effort and fight for the U.S.
