2 Warm Up As we read/watch, consider whether you would want to buy one of these homes.

3 Homestead Act The Homestead Act of 1862 parceled out millions of acres of land to settlers. All US citizens were eligible to apply to the federal government for a “homestead,” or 160-acre plot of land.

4 Westward Expansion Use the video I’m about to show you to answer 3 questions. Who moved west and why? Why was it hard for them? How did this migration change America?

5 Map/Reading Assignment
Use the text chapter to complete the map (page 289) and reading questions. You may discuss your answers with one another, but know that you are responsible for knowing this information for next week’s test & this assignment will help you with your project.
