1 Detonating Cord Assembly (DCA)/ Thin Layer Explosive (TLX) Delivery Delays & Performance Issues Ben Kerlin, CAD/PAD, In-Service Engineering Detonating Cord Assemblies (DCA) or Thin Layer Explosive (TLX) Transmit a detonation signal from input action to output Two end fittings connected by a cord Shock tube Used on F-18, V-22, F-16, AH-64, T-45, B-1, B-2, & T-6

2 Issue and Status Stock issues ongoing since 2013
Polymer material obsolete in 2011 Sole Source item TLX production halted in timeframe Due to Contractor’s inability to procure polymer or qualify a different polymer TLX production resumed in 2014 Lot Acceptance Testing (LAT) failures begin in December 2014 Failure investigations and Hazard Risk Assessments (HRAs) from December January 2017 Failure Analysis Report (FAR) fully accepted on April 2017 Vendor back into production Worked with vendor to maximize production TLX Prioritization list Prioritizes all TLX asset backlog, completed November 2016 Current Status of Stock: As of mid April 2017, ~4% of backlog manufactured

3 Normal operations resumed in March 2017
Plan Forward Normal operations resumed in March 2017 Full operations expected Summer 2017 Awaiting completion of Contract modifications and firm delivery schedules Approximately 36 Lots (~30,000 lines) on backlog Backlog projected to be completed by Spring 2018 Assuming seamless cord production and timely data requirement submittals
