2 Introducing CPME CPME represents the National Medical Associations of 28 countries in Europe and also works closely with the National Medical Associations of countries that have applied for EU membership as well as specialised European medical organisations. We are committed to contributing the medical profession’s point of view to EU institutions and European policy- making through pro-active cooperation on a wide range of health and healthcare related issues.

3 CPME Vision Doctors in Europe offer medicine which corresponds to the highest quality standards and is accessible to all who need it all over Europe Doctors in Europe enjoy good working conditions; their financial condition allows them to practice good medicine and their well-being is upheld Doctors in Europe can practice free from undue interference of administration, economy or insurances

4 New associated organisation
The General Assembly of CPME admitted the Medical Women’s International Association (MWIA) as new CPME associated organisation member MWIA will contribute to the whole scope of gender medicine MWIA will help to reinforce doctors’ visibility and strengthens CPME’s influence at European and global level

5 CPME on draft HTA Regulation
HTA cooperation on EU level  enhance evidence-based decisions on new drugs and methodologies Important to involve healthcare professionals Achieve highest level of independence and transparency Methodology, timelines and evidence requirements needs to be agreed upon upfront

6 CPME Policy on Trans Fats
Encourage the EU to limit the intake of trans fats, who increase the risk for coronary heart disease Legislative limit = protect all EU health citizens equally Doctors should be trained to be able to contribute to improving and maintaining healthy lives CPME calls on the European Commission to set a limit on trans fats and introduce mandatory labelling of trans fats content

7 Action on standardisation efforts
CPME, with other European Medical Organisations and other stakeholders (Dentists, insurers, …), continuously opposed the standardisation activities of CEN Extensive outreach at EU and national level, including the Commission CEN has now disbanded its Healthcare Services Focus Group 😅, acknowledging these concerns and positions, which is a major lobbying success !

8 Further policy developments
CPME lobbying on Proportionality Directive was successful in ensuring special status for healthcare professions Continued monitoring of implementation of General Data Protection Regulation and of code of conduct initiatives SEPEN expert network on health workforce planning and forecasting has been launched (Join the network at !)

CPME lobbying on alcohol labelling, i.e. alcohol should be labeled as any other beverage CPME participated in the joint activities of the European Medical Organisations Publication of Joint Statement of the EMOs on the Central Role of Medical Doctors, 28 May 2018 Joint BMA-EMOs event in European Parliament on ‘Keeping Europe Healthy: Brexit and the European Medical Profession’, 23 May 2018
