Obstacles to development
Geography Some nations are tiny and lack natural resources Different types of climates impact countries – too little rainfall, too much rainfall, lack of good farmland, mountains, deserts, etc. Population and poverty Better medicine and increased food supplies have increased the life expectancy – that is a good thing correct? Well sort of… The longer you live the more people there are on Earth if the birthrates remain the same. Rapid growth in small countries could lead to poverty. As populations grows those people need a place to live, they need food, they need jobs, they need education, they need medical care – All of these “things” cost money
14
Political instability
Economic dependence Most new nations formed after WWII remained dependent on their former colonial rulers They sell agricultural products and raw materials to the industrial world The industrial world then sells manufactured goods, technology, and investments to them Many developing nations might only have one crop or commodity to export, therefore, they need other nations to survive Economic policies What countries did new nations originally model themselves after? What economic policy did they eventually adopt Political instability Dictators spent money on weapons and warfare instead of education, housing and health care? Why?

HOW HAS THE ENVIRONMENT BEEN NEGLATIVELY IMPACTED FROM DEVELOPMENT IN THE INDUSTRIAL WORLD?
