9. 7th implementation Report (2009/10): some figures
Collecting systems have reached a high level of compliance, almost 94%, at EU-27 level (2 % higher than in the former Report; 15 MS reach 100% compliance).
The EU compliance rate for secondary treatment has improved in 4 percentage points, up to 82%. 10 MS reached % compliance.
Compliance rate for more stringent treatment remains stable in EU-15 (90%) MS, increases in EU-12 in 10 points, up to 14%; compliance rate slightly increases in EU-27 (77% overall rate, increase of 2%). 4 MS reach 100% compliance.
Waste water collection and treatment reach good levels in big cities (585 big cities in EU generate 45% of EU polluting load (PL)= 277 Mp.e.) and application of more stringent treatment has improved from 77% to 91% of the PL.
The share and number of sensitive areas has increased since the previous Report (72,8 to 74,2 % of EU territory); to highlight: EL: + 4,6% FR: + 6,6%, + 48 SA, PT: + 0,9%.
Improvement through co-financing: investments (14,3 B€ in 21 MS) and allocated funds in 2009/10 (13 B€). MS allocating highest amounts of funds (RO, HU, PO, with 5 B€ in total). 9

An important part of MS doesn't want to change the current data model and reporting frequency even to have data available for the use of other directives (WFD, MSFD, BWD, SD, International convention and Commission,…) :
Simplification of the current UWW data model as much as possible,
Minimum addition in the current data model : add of a compliance block (automatically prefilled from the existing data), forward looking aspect block compatible with the different needs (national implementation plan, Regional funds, legal proceeding…) updated at least each year, aggregated data at national level compatible with the different needs (EEA, EC, eurostat, international sanitation questionnaires,….)
