What are some things that you do that are unhealthy? What things would you like to do in the future to improve your health or fitness?

2 Grammar … ugh! Simple Present We use the simple present to talk about things we do all the time or as part of our regular schedule. How do you stay in shape? I walk to university everyday from the subway and go to the gym regularly. Does your Mum (regularly / usually) smoke and play computer games? Yes, she does. She pretends to do housework all day but …

3 Some words we often use with the SIMPLE PRESENT are: often, usually, generally, regularly, sometimes, never, every week / morning/ evening / Tuesday/ August/ etc, on Monday/ the weekend /etc, and in the summer/winter/etc.

5 Present Continuous We use present continuous to talk about things we are doing right now or temporarily (a short time). What sports are you playing these days? I’m doing karate. It’s getting me in shape. Is she trying to lose weight? Yes, she is. She’s not eating anything. No, she’s not. She’s not trying to lose weight.

6 Your Turn Are you trying to lose weight? Are you doing anything or learning anything new these days? Do you have any special plans coming up (this weekend)? What are you doing for fun these days ? What are you doing to prepare for your future? What is your favourite part of the day?

9 I get sick a lot! The verb “get” is used to describe health problems that often happen. I usually get sick during my vacation! I usually get the flu in winter. I usually get stressed during exams.

10 I am getting a headache The verb “get” (Pres. Cont) is used to describe the beginning of health problems. I am getting sick. I am getting tired.

11 Joining clauses with “if” and “when”
I take an aspirin I drink hot tea I have a massage IF WHEN I’m getting a headache I’m feeling cold I can’t sleep When I have a headache, I take and aspirin. If I have a headache, I take an aspirin.

12 Really? What are you going to do this weekend?
What are you going to do during winter vacation? Do you have a plan to study overseas? What can you do really well? Are you from a big family? What’s something unusual that has happened to you?

13 Alibi A gang of 3 broke into a bank last weekend and stole all the money. The police must interview them to find out if their alibi is true.
