History of Juneteenth in the U.S.
Juneteenth or June 19, 1865, is considered the date when the last slaves in America were notified of their freedom in Texas, more than 2 ½ years after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
Annually more than 200 cities in the United State celebrate Juneteenth.
Juneteenth serves as a historical milestone reminding Americans of the triumph of the human spirit, the end of slavery and ultimately, FREEDOM.

Festival at Burcham Park
Objective: To provide an entertaining day of family fun in downtown Lawrence. Carnival will include food, art/gifts and information vendors, games (moonwalk) and music. Goal of 30 vendors.
