1 An Overview of the Computer Motion System
Ralph J. Damiano, Hersh S. Maniar  Operative Techniques in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery  Volume 6, Issue 3, Pages (August 2001) DOI: /otct Copyright © 2001 Elsevier Inc. Terms and Conditions

2 1 The ZEUS surgical console consists of instrument handles, a mechanical interface to a computer control system, and a video monitor. The surgeon sits at the console and grasps handles similar to traditional microsurgical instruments. The surgeon's motions are then relayed mechanically in real time to a computer control system, which digitizes the motion. The surgeon views the operative field on the video monitor. 3 2 The three ZEUS robotic arms are shown attached to the operating room table. Two of these arms are used to hold specialized instruments. The third arm, in the center, holds an endoscope. This arm is under the voice control of the surgeon. The instruments and the endoscope enter the patient through 5-mm ports. (With permission from ©Computer Motion, Inc. photograph by Bobbi Bennett.)
