This year, parity had been the theme in men's college basketball
This year, parity had been the theme in men's college basketball. Throughout the season, there wasn't one dominant team. Six teams have been ranked No. 1 this season. This year, the NCAA tournament was up for grabs. Yes, there were upsets as always. But in the end, for Monday night's national championship game at NRG Stadium in Houston, it will be two proven teams who have been at or near the top of the rankings all along, when No. 1 seed North Carolina and No. 2 seed Villanova tip off at 9:19 p.m.. UNC comfortably advanced to the championship game with an win against No. 10 seed Syracuse on Saturday in the Final Four. Reaching this level is nothing new for the Tar Heels (33-6) or for head coach Roy Williams. This is the team's 10th national championship game appearance, and UNC has won five times. Villanova (34-5) reached the national championship game emphatically with a win against No. 2 seed Oklahoma on Saturday. The Wildcats shot an incredible 71.4% from the field and won by the biggest margin ever in a Final Four game. It will be Villanova's first trip to the national championship game since 1985. Hundreds of rescuers combed through rubble early Friday, searching for survivors who could be trapped beneath a collapsed highway overpass in Kolkata, India. Authorities said at least 24 people died after a section of the under-construction bridge came crashing to the streets of Girish Park around midday Thursday. The collapse of about 100 meters of the Vivekananda Overpass buried moving cars and pedestrians. Eighty people were rescued from the rubble, Major General Anurag Gupta from the National Disaster Management told CNN. At first, while the dust hung in the air, people desperately dug into the rubble with shovels and even their hands. Later, an army of hard-hatted rescue crews arrived. Bright lights illuminated the scene as heavy machinery lifted wide slabs of concrete that fell onto the streets. An executive for the construction company building the overpass said the collapse was not the company's fault. Speaking on local TV from the collapse site, Mamata Banerjee -- chief minister of West Bengal state, where Kolkata is the capital -- announced that relatives of those killed in the collapse would get roughly the equivalent of $7,500.

In Other News There could be quite a few empty seats at the Olympic Games in Rio this summer. With just half of tickets sold and only four months before kickoff, Brazil's new minister of sports, Richardo Leyser, is looking into ways to boost ticket sales. He told a Brazilian newspaper that the Brazilian government may purchase tickets that will be distributed to public schools. He said public officials must also work to boost worldwide confidence in Rio's ability to host the games and ensure travelers' safety. The country is in the midst of a political upheaval and massive protests, and lawmakers are currently considering a request to impeach President Dilma Rousseff. The first migrants to be deported from Greece as part of a new controversial EU plan to tackle the migration crisis have landed on Turkish soil. Three boats carrying 202 people departed in the early hours of the morning from the Greek islands of Lesbos and Chios. Many of the migrants hailing from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and other South Asian countries. According to Greek officials, the migrants had not applied for asylum (shelter). A Turkish official said Turkey has agreed to accept up to 500 migrants per day.
