5. Say-Mean-Matter: Diction and Setting
You may work with a partner or by yourself.
Read the instructions on the Say-Mean-Matter sheet in your packet.
Ask questions if you are confused.
In the Mean column, “translate”/paraphrase each quote.
In the Matter column, explain how these words create the setting, tone, and mood of the story.
For the last row of the chart, you must find another quote from the story that creates setting, tone, or mood. Include a page number.
