Holocaust Phases (mid 1930s – 1945)

People Targeted populations – Jewish, gypsies, Jehovah’s Witnesses, mentally ill, handicapped. SS Troops – Unit of the Germany military responsible for carrying out the Holocaust.

Removal of political rights (mid to late 1930s)
Voting rights, legal protections and right to sue taken away from Jews in Germany. Harassment, discrimination and oppression of Jews encouraged. Kristallnacht – Nov. 9th, 1938, Jewish properties, business and synagogues destroyed. Many Jews leave Germany (Einstein)

Ghetto Movement (1936 – early 1940s)
In German occupied territories. Jews relocated to industrial sectors of cities to work. Lose homes and businesses.

Concentration Camps (early 1940s to 1945)
Ghettos raided Possessions seized Those unable to work were killed. Prisoners worked, any resistance resulted in death. Thousands die from starvation.

Final Solution (1942 – end of the war)
Concentration camps become killing camps. Most gassed 6-12 million total dead. 80% or so from extermination Killing ends only when camps are liberated.
