Keeping hot things hot Activity type: Investigation In this investigation the children make a warm drink and test different materials to see which is best at keeping their drink warm. It is not necessary to use very hot water.

PCM 10 In groups the children discuss the investigation they will do to help Guzzler. Provide the children with the equipment they could use to carry out their investigation. In groups the children discuss ways they will carry out the investigation. They record their ideas on their planning sheets.

PCM 11 Designing a Recording Table Before commencing the investigation, children re-cap on how they would design their recording table from earlier group discussion activity. Each group designs its own table

Following this discussion, invite children to reveal the proposed designs of their recording tables to the class. If required - Sample Recording Table to see how Aoife designed her table? Do you agree with her design? Would you have added anything? (the word temperature) What will Aoife do to complete the investigation? How long will it take? How do you know? Why does she need 4 thermometers? Why does she need the watch? In your opinion, which of the materials will be the best? Give a reason for your answer.
