Rules of the Game Find a partner!
Each pair will have a Time Keeper and a Seeker Find P-U-B-L-I-C-H-E-A-L-T-H in the right order and shortest amount of time Repeat for rounds 2, 3 and 4 Record your time in the upper right hand corner 6. Have fun!!! Let me start by going through the rules of this game. Everyone stay on this page until I ask you to turn the page. This game will be played in pairs so in a minute I will ask you to count off. Once paired up, you will need to decide who will be the time keeper. Maybe it’s the person who has a phone with a stop watch readily available but you can also use the clock at the back of the room. The other person will be a seeker or finder. Their job will be to find the letters that spell out PUBLIC HEALTH. First P, then U, then B and so on in the right order and in the shortest amount of time. This game is going to repeat 4 times total and for each cycle, the time keeper will be recording how long it takes to find the letters. You’ll see on the example page I’ll show next, exactly where to record the time in your packet. The most important rule of course is to have FUN. So let’s pair up. And take a minute to decide your roles. And let’s make sure we know who’s doing what. All the time keepers, raise your phone or your hand. All the Seekers, raise your hand.

If you’re a seeker, you’re going to find and circle the letters that spell out public health in order like so P U B L. Keep going until you’ve circled every letter. And time keepers, you’ll be recording how long it takes to find all of the letters right here in the box provided. OK, is everyone clear on their roles and the task ahead of you? You have pens? Again, we’re going to be do this 4 times so don’t tire yourself out in the first round! Flip the page. L 72 44 24 79 33 36 R V 47 83 P O L 58 h 74 57 28 W 23 8 88 M Z F 80 66 Time:

DO NOT FLIP THE PAGE! Is everyone on the Mission Paused page?
After each cycle, we’ll land on this page. So we can be sure we’re moving on all at the same time. I will let you know when it’s time to flip but for now stay here. In this first round, I want us to think about all of the different roles we have at the Commission. Ideally, we’re working together, across programs, with community residents, with other city and community agencies but regardless of what part of the Commission we sit in, in order to be effective we have to be able to communicate the role and value of public health to our partners. When you turn the page, you’ll see a lot of different things that may NOT be public health but we’ll be sorting through all of that to find public health. Is everyone ready? Time keepers, are you ready? OK, you can flip the page.

DO NOT FLIP THE PAGE! Everyone should be on this page.
Now I have to apologize, we don’t spell public health with numbers. So we’re going to make a change and remove the numbers but leave the letters. This is similar to our work in public health where we may sort our work, or delegate, so that we can be more efficient. So let’s make sure everyone’s ready to play again. Time keepers are you ready?

DO NOT FLIP THE PAGE! Everyone on this slide?
Time recorded? Great. Now we’re going to implement another change. It’s hard to search all over the page to find the letters, right? We’re going to be setting everything in order. What does that mean in public health? Well if we were going to administer a flu vaccine clinic, we’d first verify the patient’s information to make sure they are eligible for the shot, then we’d make sure we had all of our materials (filled syringe, bandaids etc), then we’d prep their arm by cleaning with alcohol and so on. In this next slide, you’re going to see circles. And once you find your first letter P, you’ll need to find the next letter in a different circle. Is everyone ready? OK, go.

DO NOT FLIP THE PAGE! This is the last Pause Page so you’re in the home stretch. We’re doing great, but we can do better! Ann’s favorite phrase is the largest room in the world is the room for improvement. It’s ok to groan. Because we know we can do better, for this last cycle, we’re going to standardize. In addition to the circles, we’re going to STANDARDIZE by removing all of the different fonts. By having a clear process, a clear order, where everything is sorted and standardized, it should improve our process and our efficiency. Time keepers ready? Seekers ready?
