1 Social Media And What Not To Share!
Presented By: Allan Clapp

2 Your safety is your responsibility…
Facts about the World Wide Web and Social Media websites. There are no “Internet Police”. The facts about website privacy policies. Predators are “Watching” Social Media sites. Your pictures reveal more than you think . . .

3 World Wide Web facts . . . There are over 275,000,000,000 Internet addresses. In 2012 there were over 250,000,000 domain names. Internet technology is built to be “open”. Real security is only possible at the “end points”. Computers, Tablets, Smart Phones and Game Consoles (Xbox One and Play Station 4) can access the Internet.

4 Social Media Website Facts . . .
There are 204 Social Media websites. 74% allow children under 16 years of age. 58% allow children under 10 years of age! Web cameras CAN be remotely activated without your consent! Social Media sites regularly backup data and files.

5 There are no “Internet Police “ . . .
The F.B.I. do not have the resources to protect you. The F.B.I. is focused on crimes of $1 million or more. Cyber crime laws have fallen far behind the advancement of Internet technology. State and local police can only investigate after a crime has taken place.

6 Website Privacy Policy Facts . . .
It is common practice for website operators to sell information “gathered” from their web servers. Privacy policies are often 10 (or more) printed pages of fine print. Those “policies” can be changed without advanced notice or consent. Violations are very difficult to prove and only enforceable by a “class action” lawsuit.

7 Predators Are Watching . . .
What “predators” watch Social Media sites for: Who’s traveling . . . Places where children spend their time . . . Who is “dating” who . . . Who has something (or someone) to “lose”. Predators are closer than you think.

8 Your pictures reveal more . . .
The camera sees more than you realize. Taking pictures with a smart phone stores a great deal of information about your phone. Some smart phones record the Global Positioning System location of where it was taken in the file.

9 What not to "publically" post . . .
The names of people show in your photos. Your travel plans / itinerary. The pictures that can identify where you (or someone you care about) have been.

10 How to fight back . . . Think before you post.
Refuse “friend requests” from people you do not know. Use “Strong” passwords. Avoid pets names, kids names, birthdates as passwords. Remember: Once a page is viewed it stays in the persons computer for a long time. Remember: “Deleting” something from a web page only hides it (the web server computer retains the file).
