Math All students take a pre test to determine class placement the first week of school. Students should expect H.W. in math every night regardless of math class.

Science, Social Studies, Health
Science, Social Studies, and Health will be integrated into the reading and ELA segments as well as through isolated lessons. Science lab will offer additional hands-on activities to support the 4th grade science curriculum. Students will have occasional daily homework and long-term projects in these subjects. Tests and quizzes will be part of the Science and Social Studies grades (Studying will be essential for these tests and quizzes). Health grades will also come from participation in guidance lessons given by our counselor.

Homework and Agenda Policy
Homework will be assigned daily as needed in all subjects Expect the homework to take around 40 minutes to an hour (at the most) including the 20 minutes of reading. Homework is an extended practice of skills learned in school. It should be independent practice for the students, but may require parent support. Please give the support as needed. Homework is due the next day unless specifically stated Reading for 20 minutes 5 times per week is a required part of the HW. Agendas should be signed by parents each night. It will summarize daily lessons and will include all homework. (HW will be highlighted)

Tests and Quizzes Tests and quizzes should be expected in all core subjects Advanced notice (at least 2-3 days) will be given for tests and quizzes. They will be written in the agenda and posted on the BLOG Students should study for tests and quizzes for several days. They will need help at home to learn study skills. Tests are weighted more than quizzes and daily class assignments with regard to grade averages

Grades This year the students’ grades are based on a numerical grading scale with the subject’s final quarterly averages being represented by letter grades on the report card. Grades are now based on how well the students perform on the given assignment. Parents can view their child’s current grades in ParentVue at anytime (4th and 5th grade only) Letter grades will be given on the report card for the following subjects: Reading, Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, and Health Conduct and Study/Work Habits shall be evaluated as: S, NI, or U

Discipline Plan There are two classroom expectations. 1. Be kind
2. Always do your best. Students who are following these expectations will earn points in our class dojo to trade for various prizes and school incentives. Students who are not following these expectations will be provided independent walking time on the playground to think about how they can improve while at school.
