Why I Preach the Eternal Security of the Believer
Rev. Robert J. Smith Pastor Colonial Hills Baptist Church

Psalm 37:23-24 23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.

Psalm 37:25-26 25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. 26 He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.

Psalm 37:27-28 27 Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. 28 For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

Rod Whetstone “This will be an attempt at looking at the doctrine of eternal security to see if it is valid or is just wishful theology. Is it supported by Scripture, or by reasoning and logic? The Baptists support for this doctrine basically relies on the Scripture – Ephesians 2:8-9…to this they add logic and reasoning.” 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV)

Isaiah 1:18 18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

I. The Lord Orders 23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.

I. The Lord Orders 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 1 John 5:13 (KJV)

I. The Lord Orders 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Philippians 2:13 (KJV)

I. The Lord Orders 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:8-10 (KJV)

II. The Lord Upholds 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.

II. The Lord Upholds 4 And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. Isaiah 46:4 (KJV)

II. The Lord Upholds 24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, Jude 1:24 (KJV)

III. The Lord Preserves 28 For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

III. The Lord Preserves He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. Proverbs 2:8 (KJV)

III. The Lord Preserves 18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. 2 Timothy 4:18 (KJV)

How are we saved? 21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21 (KJV)

How are we saved? 19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; Acts 3:19 (KJV)

How are we saved? 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10 (KJV)

How are we saved? 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:13 (KJV)

How are we saved? 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
