2 Why do we do Module Allocations?
To allow student choice. To ensure a fair allocations process. For small group teaching – seminar groups of 15. Last year every student was allocated to at least two of their first preferences. There will be over 30 modules to choose from; you pick your first and second preferences. We will allocate you to a combination of these. 3 Module Allocations: the process
Wed 22nd March Attend the History Module Allocations Meeting. Wed 22nd March (after meeting) Module allocation instructions sent out by department. By 5pm on Thurs 23rd March List of the History modules running in including the DRAFT timetable will be available. Tues 28th – Sun 2nd April Departmental module preference forms open at 9am Tuesday and preferences must be submitted midnight by Sunday. Mon 3rd - Thurs 20th April Department allocates students to modules. Fri 21st April History Module Allocations published on History Online (MOLE). Tues 2nd – Fri 19th May University Online Module Choice system opens. SINGLE HISTORY – You will not need to complete the University Online Module Choice process, unless you are requesting an unrestricted module. Fri 7th July Exam results released. 4 Level 2 Modules Core modules – HST202: Historians and History (all students), available in first semester only. Taught through lectures / seminars / office hours Document options – available in first semester only; detailed studies of a historical theme or event with particular focus on source analysis. Lectures / seminars / office hours Examples: Aztecs – 1066 and All That – Munich Crisis Option modules – first and second semester. Detailed studies of periods / themes. Lectures / seminars / office hours Examples: The Fall of Rome – The History of Terrorism – Gender, Culture & Society Course assignment – taught in second semester only. 5,000 word essay tied to either a document option or option module. Workshops and individual supervisions.

Compulsory Modules HST202 (Semester 1) 20 credits Document Option (Semester 1) 20 credits Course Assignment (Semester 2) 20 credits Option Modules Must take at least two option modules from History Can take 20 credits outside History – unrestricted At least one module (including the document option) per band: Band A – Pre 1500 Band B – Band C – Post 1800

Attached to your Document Option or one of your Option modules. Provided the member of staff teaching is available in sem 2. What? 5,000 word extended essay. When? Runs in semester 2 only. Course Assignment Teaching? Supervisor, seminars & workshops. Restrictions Can only be taken with HST modules, not AAP. Preferences? 8 Timetable The timetable is draft at this stage, please be aware changes can occur. Please check your timetable carefully, particularly if you are taking modules outside of History. 10 Key Information It is not allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Preferences submitted on time will be given priority over late submissions. Do not take more than 70 credits per semester.
