The POMPA priority project focusing on COSMO will end in 2017
What should be the future of HPC in the consortium?
How should we tackle these challenges for ICON?
Challenges:
What will the hardware look like in 5 years, in 10 years ? How to address many different possible architectures
The consortium has now some leadership in HPC in the weather modelling community, how to build on that ?
Need to expose ever more parallelism, achieve better strong scalability
Energy consumption : this will become more and more relevant for the COSMO members

2. HPC Priority project for COSMO consortium
Possible content:
Achieve performance portability: x86 multi-core CPU, NVIDIA GPU, Intel Xeon Phi
Increase strong scalability through task parallelism (e.g. different components run in parallel)
Apply and evaluate different programming models: DSLs, directives, source-to-source compilers

How to achieve a broader engagement within COSMO as compared to the POMPA priority project?

Usage of Git : try to get more developers : currently mostly use by SCA
Timeline for merging everything into the main cosmo code ?
