Discussion Questions What is science?
How is science different from other subjects you study in school? Scientists agree that the dinosaurs went extinct 65 million years ago. But they disagree about WHY that happened. Why do you think scientists disagree, even though they have the same information? You can read many books with scientific information. Do you think that this information could change in the future? Why? Why is science important?
3
You are scientists! Each of you has one or two puzzle pieces. Each piece of the puzzle represents a scientific data. With your puzzle piece alone, do you have enough information to draw a conclusion?
4
Scientists work together!
Scientists investigate and find information, but they also work with other scientists to put all the information together to draw a conclusion. Work with your group (4 puzzle pieces) and see if you can make a conclusion (a square shape).
5
New Data What happens if new information or evidence is discovered?
You have a new piece. Now, you must put all five pieces together to make a new conclusion (a new square). Good luck!
6
Scientists gather information and evidence to explain phenomena.
Scientists work together – each scientist has some of the data but needs data from other scientists to get the “big picture” Many scientific discoveries “build” on earlier information gathered by other scientists. Science knowledge can ALWAYS change, if new information is found!
