1 Student Run Credit Unions

2 “Helping members make smart financial choices”
Looking back : It all began with a mission Helping members make smart financial choices isn’t about our products or expertise. It’s about how our products and expertise can contribute to our members’ financial and personal success. Making smart financial choices is something everyone can do: the teenager, the retiree, people who rent or own, individuals and organizations, the person who lives paycheck to paycheck or the person who makes more in a month than some people do in a year. Statistics and member experiences show a very real need for financial education. As a credit union we feel that it is our responsibility to use the knowledge we have to help the people we serve.

3 2008 August 2008, the first student run credit union at the high school level in the state of NC Principal at the time “While all of the educators and administrators here at Reagan appreciate the importance of studying subjects like history, science and language, we also recognize that financial literacy is an essential part of delivering our Reagan Raiders a well-rounded education.” Ribbon cutting, press conference, and grand opening attended by Congresswoman, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Superintendent (Those relationships have proven instrumental as we have continued on)

6 Hands-on Learning Approach Develops Pride and Self Esteem
Community Partnership Financial Literacy This program is a unique way for students to gain hands on financial services experience while in their school environment. Each student is taught the basics of teller operations and member services to acquire the same skills required by the credit union for its own personal staff. This training provides the student with a sense of pride which develops their self-esteem. They learn the responsibilities of handling cash, confidentiality, professionalism, computer skills and marketing. This program allows Allegacy to partner with the local schools in our communities to assist in the education of the youth in financial literacy. Allegacy is committed to the communities in which it serves.
