‘Social’ strand is key in PE lessons
Ofsted – Pupils’ social development is shown by their: S1: Use of a range of social skills in different contexts, including working and socialising with pupils from different religious, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. S2: Willingness to participate in a variety of communities and social settings, including by volunteering, cooperating well with others and being able to resolve conflicts effectively. S3: Acceptance and engagement with the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs; the pupils develop and demonstrate skills and attitudes that will allow them to participate fully in and contribute positively to life in modern Britain.

Why use different roles?
Not just about performance Takes pressure/focus off individuals in activities like athletics Can use their strengths to contribute to the groups success
4
How it works… Lessons are pupil driven with teacher support Support others in the group to complete the event as best they can Work out group average score
5
Converting into points…
This score is then converted into points as a group Still encouraging competition, but without isolating weaker/less confident students Everyone contributes to group score
6
What areas does it hit? M1 – Ability to recognise the difference between right and wrong – opportunity to cheat – what would it gain? M2 – Understanding the consequences of behaviours and actions – working hard for others in your group (average scores) As well as obvious SOCIAL aspects
