1 The Pearl By John Steinbeck

2 In the small Indian village on the beaches of La Paz contently lived a family...
of the lower social economic class, with little money, a poorly made shelter, and little food.

3 Or so they thought that it would...
Until one day, catastrophe struck, and the family was left looking for “the pearl of the world” to save their child. Or so they thought that it would...

4 After finding the pearl, the once content and happy Kino becomes driven by greed and obsession for more, putting a rift between himself and his family.

5 Juana, the mother, having concern for her family, tries several times to rid the family of the pearl and its evil. But, stands by her husband’s side despite his actions.

6 The pearl of the world sybolizes the evils of the world.
Both Juan and Kino are left with deep misery after the pearl’s evil goes too far. “The pearl had become sinister in his ears, and it was interwoven with the music of evil.” The pearl of the world sybolizes the evils of the world.

7 What has the evil of worldly greed done to the once loving and content family?
