1 POSITIVE COACHING SCOTLAND CHALLENGE WEAKNESS
Young athletes feel comfortable working on their strengths, however the challenge is also to be creative when working on their weaknesses. Coaches can challenge athletes to work on their weaknesses by wearing a white band to remind them/highlight their weakness (i.e. in football, wearing a white band over the sock of their less dominant foot, or a white wristband if practicing dribbling a basketball), this increases the coaches awareness when the player is challenging themselves and reminds them to provide praise for moving out of the comfort zone and into the courage zone. It also helps remind the athlete/player to use their white band arm/leg etc to challenge themselves. Players/athletes are then encouraged to challenge themselves and improve their weakness (i.e. taking a corner with their white band foot). Giving praise for challenging a weakness gives young players/athletes the confidence to try, try and try again. Rate this tool! Give us your feedback.
