2. By default, the width of a table is always margin to margin, regardless of the number of columns:

3. If the table is too wide it is harder to read across the rows:
Tables are much easier to read when the columns are only as wide as necessary for the text to fit :

4. Click on the four headed arrow to select the entire table:

5. Click on the Table Layout tab and drop down the choices under Autofit:

6. Select fit contents: VOILA!

7. To center horizontally:
Click on the Layout Tab under Tables
Click on Properties
On Table tab click on Center

8. The result: an easy to read centered table!

9. If a table is on a page by itself, vertically center it too!
Click on Page Layout
Launch the Page Setup dialog box
Click on the Layout tab
Set vertical alignment to Center
