Important role of history: Popular culture helped to create the idea of a nation during the 1960s. Chansonniers, hockey, television, theater, celebrities Hegemonic story in the social discourse (Cambron) Narrative identity (Ricoeur): a collectivity is defined with stories on itself about itself.

Access and consumption
78% of Québec population speak mostly French at home (43% are bilingual) Cultural consumption: Television: 20% in English, 10% in both languages - 30% Music: 20% in English, 33% in both languages - 53% Films: 27% in English, 10% in both languages - 37% Radio: 19% in English, 10% in both languages - 29% Books: 17% in English, 9% in both languages - 26% Magazines: 19% in English, 8% in both languages - 27% Taken from the Enquête sur les pratiques culturelles au Québec (2014)
