Essential Questions: What challenges do characters encounter and how they respond to them? How do character interactions change throughout the text?

Vocabulary: character: the people, animals, or inanimate objects that appear in a story event: the action that occurs in the story interaction: the actions between or among two or more people, ideas, events, or concepts relationship: the way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are connected, or the state of being connected.

Launching the Thinking:
What does the word “interaction” mean when describing characters? Take the next five minutes to record your responses in your notebook. We will share with our group members afterwards. Let’s watch a clip from Wingclips.com in which Gru meets little girls and gives them ground rules for his house.

Character Interaction Chart:
Using the graphic organizer, complete the chart using the characters and interactions from Tuck Everlasting. A second graphic organizer is for you to use with the novel you are reading. You will discuss your organizer with your teacher during individual conferences.
