1 1. Analyze the prompt A. Read the prompt carefully. Note key words that tell you what you must do.  B. Underline phrases in the prompt that tell you what you need to include in your essay. C. Write these elements in your own words to be sure you understand them.

B. Make notes- jot down specific examples from the text (not necessarily quotes) to support your claim C. Organize your information- be sure you have a response for every part of the prompt-brainstorm/cluster possible responses/points

3 Timed Writing #2 (week three of GOW)
Choose one of these two prompts to address for the timed writing tomorrow. I will want you to use three examples from the text (Not quotes--paraphrased examples of something specific). Bring in pre-writing (required and worth 10 pts.). Prompt 1: How does Steinbeck change his style to mimic the emotional and physical strain on the migrant workers during their journey? How does he describe the landscape to change the tone of the novel? Prompt 2: Discuss how the rise of the socialist ideal in Chapter 14 foreshadows the relationships built between the migrant workers. Be sure to incorporate stylistic techniques used (including shift from “I” to “we”) and tone words that reflect the newfound motivation and drive of the workers.
