1 55 Words-Show, Don’t Tell For each of the stories, break down three ways that the author made the story more interesting by showing rather than telling. Examples for the first story are on the next slide.

2 Example-Show, don’t tell
Instead of telling us that there was a crazy atmosphere in the courtroom, the story opens with the image “Pandemonium erupting.” Instead of telling us why Tommy is on the stand, it can be inferred that he was being questioned for killing his wife or in the killing of his wife by the way the story ends. Instead of telling us that the wife walked in, the author leaves it to the reader to make the inference that her being alive is the reason for the shock.
