2 Figure 1 Representation of Different PPR-DYW Associations in RNA Editing Complexes. We can assume that all RNA editing complexes in plant organelles contain at least one array of PPR motifs and one cytidine deaminase-like DYW domain. In some cases, these domains are within the same protein (top). In most cases (in flowering plants) these domains are supplied by two different proteins. Three pairings have now been described: E+ proteins paired with DYW2 (Andrés-Colás et al., 2017; Guillaumot et al., 2017) (upper center), CRR4 paired with DYW1 (Boussardon et al., 2012) (lower center), and pairings involving MEF8 (Diaz et al., 2017) (bottom). The PPR proteins paired with MEF8 remain to be identified, but based on the structure of MEF8, we predict that these will turn out to be the mitochondrial-specific “short” E-class proteins described by Chateigner-Boutin et al. (2013). Molecular Plant  , DOI: ( /j.molp ) Copyright © 2017 The Author Terms and Conditions
