Ocean currents – the movement of water within the ocean water
Ocean currents – the movement of water within the ocean water. Caused by water temperature, water salinity, water density, wind, and gravitational pull from the moon.

Gyre – A circular motion of water in each of the major ocean basins.

Upwelling – The upward movement of ocean water from deep in the ocean to the surface.

Downwelling – The downward movement of ocean water from the surface.

El Nino – A time when surface waters are warmer causing nutrient-rich cold water to stay close to the bottom of the ocean.
