Types of variable Notes
Independent – A variable that doesn’t change during the experiment/survey. In an experiment this is called the explanatory variable. Dependent – A variable which is affected by other factors. Dichotomous – A special example of a categorical variable. There are only 2 possible answers. Ordinal – A variable with responses which CAN be ordered but does not include numbers Quantitative – A variable which can expressed using numbers and is either discrete or continuous.
