3
Convey To show It is tough for the teacher to convey the idea that poetry really is important in life.
4
Relevant Important or connected to the matter at hand
That evidence was not relevant to the case; the fact that he was watching television at 8:30 on Tuesday did not matter.
5
Structure Arrangement of parts or elements
The structure of the story was unique because it started out as chronological but changed when the main character had flashbacks.
6
Protagonist The main character of a work
The protagonist of Alice in Wonderland is definitely Alice.
7
Exposition The first part of the plot outline where the characters and setting are explained. In the exposition of “Little Red Riding Hood,” the reader learns about the girl, her grandmother, and that granny lives in the woods.
8
Climax The turning point in the story and the part of highest tension/suspense. In the climax of the movie, I could not stop watching; I had to see if the main character was going to end up with the man of her dreams!
9
Contrast To compare in order to show differences
In class, we like to contrast stories like “Freedom Summer” and “Passage to Freedom.”
10
Classify To arrange by groups; categorize
We should be able to classify works into separate genres.
11
Significant Important to the work or situation
The most significant part of the movie was when we see the girl hiding her weapons in the woods; we know she will have to use those later.
