Study of Hydrogen/Syngas Combustion and NO Emissions at High Pressures and Temperatures
Yiguang Ju, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Princeton University Environmental regulations and energy security produce an urgent need to develop alternative fuel resources. Hydrogen and hydrogen syngas derived from coal and biomass be used to generate power and electricity in gas turbines to achieve improved efficiency and reduced emissions. With this ACS funding, the following achievements were made: A new method for laminar flame speed measurements was developed. Flame speeds of hydrogen/syngas/air mixtures at high pressures were measured. The minimum ignition energy for hydrogen/syngas/air mixtures was determined. Investigated the flame instabilities of hydrogen/syngas flames at high pressures NOx emissions in syngas premixed flames with nitrogen/CO2 dilution was examined. An updated chemical mechanism for hydrogen/syngas combustion was developed. Flame Instabilities Laminar Flame Speeds NO Emission Indices
