2 Overview WHY In preparation of the HLC re-accreditation in 2020, the campus is undergoing a systematic approach to collecting assessment information for every degree program. Each program is asked to fill out the assessment template. HOW Assessment templates (undergraduate and graduate), resources and training opportunities are available to all academic programs. Completed assessment templates need to be submitted to the Assistant Provost for Assessment and be reviewed by the Council for Learning Outcomes Assessment.

3 Accreditation Criteria
4.B. The institution demonstrates a commitment to educational achievement and improvement through ongoing assessment of student learning. The institution has clearly stated goals for student learning and effective processes for assessment of student learning and achievement of learning goals. The institution assesses achievement of the learning outcomes that it claims for its curricular and co-curricular programs. The institution uses the information gained from assessment to improve student learning. The institution’s processes and methodologies to assess student learning reflect good practice, including the substantial participation of faculty and other instructional staff members.

4 Timeline of Campus Assessment Activities
January 2017: Campus-wide announcement about Learning Outcomes Assessment, along with assessment templates sent to units for assessment plan updates and revisions. Resources, website, training opportunities made available. May 1, 2017: Submit UG assessment templates (98% of UG assessment templates submitted) AY17-18: Begin implementing revised assessment plans April 1, 2018: Submit G templates September 1, 2018: Deadline for submitting the University Library template March 30, 2020: HLC comprehensive evaluation The Library Got Involved

6 Campus-wide Student Learning Outcomes
1: Intellectual Reasoning and Knowledge Definition: Illinois students will acquire broad and deep knowledge across academic disciplines and fields. 2: Creative Inquiry and Discovery Definition: Illinois students will apply knowledge to promote inquiry, discover solutions, and generate new ideas and creative works. 3: Effective Leadership and Community Engagement Definition: Illinois students will build and sustain productive relationships to respond to civic and social challenges at local, national, and global levels, creating positive change in their communities. 4: Social Awareness and Cultural Understanding Definition: Illinois students will develop a critical and reflective orientation toward such social and cultural differences as race, indigeneity, gender, class, sexuality, language, and disability. 5: Global Consciousness Definition: Illinois students will discover how complex, interdependent global systems—natural, environmental, social, cultural, economic, and political—affect and are affected by the local identities and ethical choices of individuals and institutions.
