Why We do state the goals of the session, we often fail to make the connection to the larger context or initiative.

Participants may say or think Why am I participating in this session? What is expected of me? This is just another thing I am expected to do …

Example: Campus improvement plan identifies effective questioning as a target area Why: Improving the academic achievement of students through effective questioning techniques. How: Improved questioning techniques raise the level of student engagement and rigor in the classroom. Effective training, ongoing support, and resources will support a change in classroom questioning. What: Classroom observations will provide data indicating that teacher and student questions challenge knowledge, understanding, and critical thinking in connection with the standards.
