Types of Sentences L 7.1b: Choose among simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences to signal differing relationships among ideas. Sentences can be classified based on how they have been constructed. Remember: All sentences are required to have a subject and a verb/predicate in order to be considered complete Sentences can have additional information in phrases. Most phrases will start with a preposition. Clauses can be classified as independent or dependent. Clauses that are dependent always begin with a subordinating conjuction.
