Lab Safety… it never takes a holiday?!

Lab Etiquette Each student is responsible for leaving his/her lab bench in clean and neat condition before leaving lab. Wash your hands before leaving the lab. Do not sit on the lab benches. No food or drink allowed while doing a lab. No Horseplay

Appropriate Dress Safety glasses, a lab coat and shoes MUST be worn at all times in a lab. Sandals/open-toed shoes, or any shoes that do not cover your entire foot, are NOT ALLOWED during a lab.

Chemical Spills In the Lab... On you...
1. If you spill chemicals in the lab tell the teacher immediately; they will give you instructions on how to clean up and dispose of the chemicals and any broken glassware ( goes to the broken glass container under the fumehood) 2. If you spill a chemical on you, immediately wash with cold water for 15 minutes and have your lab partner (or anyone else) notify your teacher immediately! Eye wash station Safety shower

If there is fire... Know the location and operation of the emergency safety equipment. – Fire extinguisher (ABC type - combustible, chemical, and electrical ), fire blanket, safety shower, fume-hood, and telephone. Turn off gas jets when not in use. The “off” position is when the handle is at right angles to the pipe.
