13. Findings :: Back-up
Faculty migrate and reuse their data and believe their data will be of future value
Faculty lack proper back-up procedures
Primary and backup copies are stored in the same location, risking catastrophic loss
94%: Primary copy of data stored on office computer
Top back-up locations include external hard drive & office computer

14. Findings :: Reuse, Sharing
Faculty believe:
sharing data is important…
including data management costs in grant applications is important..
having a preservation plan in place is important…
BUT only a handful do so!

15. Findings:: Sharing, Description
Few faculty are aware of criteria for the creation of descriptive information to aid in the discovery & reuse of data
<10% report being knowledgeable of or frequently use criteria
While the majority of faculty believe it is important to share data with others (and that their colleagues do the same), fewer than half report sharing data

16. Findings :: Responsibility
Students and faculty are important audiences for data outreach programs
93% faculty are personally responsible for their data both during and after data collection; 40%: Students are also responsible during data collection
Faculty do not believe that other entities should be responsible for long-term care of data
Includes libraries, campus IT, external project partners, professional organizations, disciplinary archives

17. Challenges & Opportunities for the Library
The Library is not perceived as a resource for data stewardship
Opportunities for collaboration with other University Administrative Offices
Opportunities for mutual engagement, teaching and learning
(what services will give the library the biggest “bang for the buck”)
Collaboration with other University Administrative Offices is opportunity to serve as a resource and incorporate data funding
