Step 1 Circle the prepositions: in, out, over, under, behind, after, at, for, etc.

Step 2 Underline forms of the verb “to be”: is, are, was, were, has been, etc.

Step 3 Ask “Where’s the action?” “Who Is Kicking Whom?” The answer will uncover the sentence core: Subject, Verb, Object. Put the subject, verb, and object as close as possible to one another.
