4 wheedle Persuade by flattery

5 Apprehensive- fearful, anxious
The child felt apprehensive when she went to her first day of school, but after some time, she became eager and excited.

6 apprehensive Some kids were eager to go on the rollercoaster, but others were apprehensive when asked to ride.

7 contrast I am apprehensive when I see a spider, but I am brave when I see a cricket.

8 Eager-impatiently waiting
I was eager and excited to graduate 8th grade, but I dreaded the final exam.

9 Distraught-upset, very agitated I became distraught when I lost my favorite child at Disneyland, but when I found her, I was relieved and happy.

10 palpable- obvious, easily perceived The tensions was palpable in the stands as the fans hoped the boy would hit a homerun..

11 Disposition- personality This lady had a happy, almost weird, disposition, buy her husband has a mean personality.

12 Nurturing/nurture- helping to grow or develop
The mother nurtured her child and the child grew to be a healthy adult. Elementary teachers are nurturing, but middle school teachers are not as caring. (compound sentence)

13 Enhance- improve I lifted weights hoping to enhance my muscle tone.
I tried to enhance my education by going to summer school, but instead I grew dumber.

14 Aptitude-talent Einstein had an aptitude for science.
Beethoven had an aptitude for music. Michael Jordan has aptitude for basketball, but he wasn’t that talented in baseball.

15 Chastisement-punishment
The teacher chastised me for not doing my homework. Chastisement happened to the boy who stole the teacher’s medicine.

16 Petulantly- in an ill tempered way, moody
I petulantly cleaned my room after a fight with my mom.

17 Remorse- regret He felt remorse after he killed the dog.(example)

18 Tabulated- recorded and filed
I tabulated the scores and found that the average was a C+.

19 Primly-proper When I met the Queen of England, I primly sipped my tea, but my rude husband guzzled his beer.

20 Murky-unclear, dark The murky, unclear, and black pond did not seem inviting.

21 Vague- unclear The setting of The Giver is vague; we’re not sure the time nor the place. The directions were vague, so I didn’t understand what to do.
