1 SmartScore & Recommendations

2 During Skill Practice: Student Perspective
Sees current SmartScore next to skills practiced Sees medals where mastery was achieved As students are practicing skills, they receive a SmartScore. The SmartScore for each skill can be found on the students landing page for each grade level of each subject the student has practices. The SmartScore reflects a student’s level of understanding as it pertains to their most recent practice of that particular skill.

3 During Skill Practice: The SmartScore
Indicates progress towards mastery: Number of completed problems Number of correct and incorrect responses Problem difficulty Consistency- highly rewards for a series of correct responses The SmartScore is built as the student is working based on an algorithm that highly rewards consistency. It’s not just about right or wrong…it also factors in the level of difficulty or level of complexity of that skill As we have seen, each skill has a variety of item types that either build in complexity or variety in order to scaffold learning towards mastery. So, if a student alternates between getting one correct and one wrong they will continually repeat items at previous levels and progress towards mastery at a slower less efficient pace than if he/she gets more correct than incorrect. If a student is taking a long time to complete a skill, it is an indication that they are making many errors and may benefit from intervention. Avoid using SmartScores in your gradebook as it is NOT a percentage score IMPORTANT: The SmartScore is not a percentage; therefore, a 50 does not indicate failure.

4 During Skill Practice: SmartScore Proficiency and Ribbons
100 Successfully completed the Challenge Zone. 90 Entering the Challenge Zone 80-89 Proficient 70-79 Competent but Not Consistent GOALSETTING is often the key for ensuring that students take a vested interest in their learning, and experience success after putting in the work. If your students earn an orange ribbon 70-79, you may want to encourage them to continue working towards the BLUE RIBBON When students earn their GREEN RIBBON, the program will automatically push them into the Challenge Zone. The questions in the Challenge Zone are rigorous/very difficult, and they do have to answer 10 of them in a row correctly in order to earn the Gold Medal of Mastery. We recommend that you don’t set the goal at mastery…but maybe bet 85 & 90.

5 Recommendations: Math Only
