To what extent do you support legal validity of the relatively new tort named “infliction of mental distress”? How does this tort differ from civil assault?
As a consultant to a local business, you’ve been asked to write up a 5-7 sentence memo to their employees explaining how to avoid involving the company in a lawsuit. (Note: due to its length, this memo is not to target any specific tort, but to serve as general guidance on responsibility and liability as an employee.)

2. An Introduction to Intentional Tort
Part I: Using any available online resources, locate four recent (within the last eighteen months) articles about civil cases. Select from the following: civil assault, infliction of mental distress, defamation of character, nuisance, and intellectual property. Discuss the nature of the case, who is involved (i.e. identify the plaintiff and defendant), clearly lay out the legal complaint being made, and explain any expected (or dictated) damages (either punitive or compensatory). Itemize damages as included in the article.
Part II: Read the article linked below, then watch the related TED talk. Then, draft a ½ to ¾ page editorial addressing the question, “Are patent laws beneficial or detrimental to a 21st century society?”. Your response must cite at least one article/source outside of the two I provided.
